Fashion designer Amy Powney of cult label Mother of Pearl is a rising star in the London fashion scene. Raised off-the-grid in rural England by activist parents, Amy has always felt uneasy about the devastating environmental impact of her industry. When she wins the coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year, which comes with a big cash prize, Amy decides to use the money to create a sustainable collection from field to finished garment, and transform her entire business. Over the following three years, her own personal revolution becomes the precursor of a much bigger, societal change.
After the film, there will be a special Q&A featuring the below speakers (and more to be announced!).
Rachel Reilly – National Manager, Ethical Clothing Australia
Rachel joined Ethical Clothing Australia as National Manager in November 2022. Previous, she held the position of National Manager of Social Policy and Advocacy at a NFP and was the Executive Director of a NFP supporting women who had experienced human trafficking. Rachel holds a Bachelor of International Development and a Master of Human Rights Law.
Marnie Goding –Brand Director & Co Founder, ELK
Marnie Goding is the Brand Director and Co-Founder of Elk. Known for its sustainable and ethical practices, Marnie’s passion for sustainable fashion stems from her desire to reduce the footprint of the business and impact of Elk products whilst promoting responsible consumption. Her commitment to social and environmental responsibility has earned her numerous accolades and recognition as a leader in the industry.
Jenna Ruthflood – Fashion Stylist at Ironic Minimalist
Jenna is a slow fashion stylist whose aim is to help people understand the issues that surround fast fashion. She advocates for sustainable alternatives such as pre-loved, vintage and clothing made with ethical practices. Jenna believes in slowing down our clothing consumption by curating capsule wardrobes and buying for long-term investments instead of purchasing on a whim or following short trends. She hopes that in the future, more people invest in the sharing economy by renting or borrowing garments instead of owning them
