the screening

Proudly presented in partnership with Drop In Care Space, Amaze & Minus18.

Join us for a sensory-friendly screening of WHO I AM followed by a Q&A with the film’s heroes Aether and Anthea and Sonny Jane Wise (Lived Experience Educator), a multiply neurodivergent public speaker, advocate, author, content creator and founder of Drop In Care Space, and other trans and neurodivergent young people from Adelaide, MC’d by Angelique Joy a neuroqueer visual artist, PHD candidate, community educator and host of the (RE)FRAMED podcast.

These non-profit community organisations will be receiving the fundraising donation for this screening:

Minus18 – Australia’s charity improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth via life-affirming events, leadership programs, and education for the whole community.

Amaze – a charity for the autism community providing Autism Connect, a free, national autism helpline, that offers independent and expert information over phone, email and webchat.

Drop In Care Space – a 100% peer and volunteer-led community centre for LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent and disabled individuals to drop in and connect with peers in Adelaide.

A transgender and Autistic teen learns to be who they are with the help of their own original animated characters, The Fallens.

WHO I AM is a touching story of a transgender teen who is also Autistic. 14-year-old Charlie (pronouns he/him/it) finally comes out to his mum, setting him on a path of navigating the first steps of transition – the social transition – and ultimately settling into his identity with a new name, Aether. Meanwhile his mum Anthea goes on her own journey to embracing her child for all that he is.

The story is told through observational moments, intimate reflections from the whole family, and Aether’s own original animated characters, The Fallens, coming to life.

Coming to cinemas in limited release from June 2023.
